Orange Door Family Violence Practitioner

Location: Cranbourne West, Melbourne VIC

Department: Child Welfare, Youth & Family Services (Community Services & Development)

Hours: Full time

Salary Range: $97,000 – $100,000 per year plus salary packaging

Orange Door Family Violence Practitioner

Become the helping hand for Aboriginal children, young people and families experiencing family violence.

This is a role in which your understanding of “the system” and your ability to assess clients’ needs and gain their trust can have life-altering outcomes for those you serve.

ABOUT YOU:

  • Do you have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Social Work? And if not, are you able to demonstrate that you’re working towards that qualification and not too far away from achieving it?  
  • Would you welcome the opportunity to work with the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities? 
  • Do you have the interpersonal skills, emotional resilience and temperament required to work full time with children, young people and families experiencing family violence?
  • Do you have sufficient exposure to Aboriginal culture to guide co-workers on System matters to interlace cultural responsiveness and safety?
  • Do you understand how Family Support Services work in Victoria and the different models of intervention?
  • Do you understand intake processes in Victoria, the MARAM framework and risk assessment practices?

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, you’ll be:

  • Leading and supporting culturally safe and responsive practice in The Orange Door Southern Metropolitan Area.
  • Creating warm referrals to other services, as well supporting and advocating on behalf of client families.  Also helping them navigate their way through the system without having to recount every detail of their story to every new face and department they encounter.
  • Completing initial and ongoing assessment for children and families.
  • Developing Family Action and Safety Plans. 
  • Working from the Orange Door Hub in Dandenong as well as through outreach at Client’s homes and other sites.
  • Supporting the Orange Door Team through consultation in hub meetings, education and outreach to ensure their work with Aboriginal families is culturally responsive.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

For this role you will also need:

  • A current unrestricted driver’s license
  • To pass a Working with Children Check
  • Be willing to undertake a Police Background Check
  • Proof of vaccination status
