Communications and Marketing Officer

About the Organisation

The Dandenong & District Aborigines Co-operative Ltd (DDACL) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (ACCHO) which is governed by a community elected Board of Directors.  It is committed to the provision of a high-quality range of services which will foster and support positive and fulfilling lifestyles for individuals and families within our community.  These services are delivered in a professional and efficient manner and in keeping with our culture, traditions, and heritage.

DDACL’s Corporate Services Unit provides the support functions and technical guidance in specialist areas including Governance, Quality and Accreditation, Finance, HR, Infrastructure (fleet management, facilities, and utilities) and Communications & Marketing to ensure that DDACL operates effectively and efficiently and can respond to the changing external and internal environment.

DDACL is a family friendly, flexible, supportive workplace that supports staff and encourages training and development. This position provides a great opportunity to work with the Aboriginal community in Southern Metropolitan Melbourne.

In this exciting role as a Part Time Communications and Marketing Officer role, you will be responsible for:

Summary of Position:

The Communications and Marketing Officer will report to the Manager, Corporate Services and will coordinate the delivery of DDACLs communications and community engagement activities and other projects as required. The main purpose of the role is to ensure that our communications are effective, targeted and engage appropriately with our Aboriginal community and our stakeholders. The position will be responsible for developing and implementing a communications strategy including, print and news media, social media and publications.

This role will support DDACL in its contribution to self-determination and achievement of its strategic plan ensuring that the organisation is able to improve the profile and position and meet minimum standards.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the development and implementation of innovative communications campaigns and strategies, to promote and improve DDACLs reputation and enhance community understanding of the organisation.
  • Develop, maintain and implement elements of the DDACL communications calendar.
  • Oversee and coordinate the development, coordination and ongoing maintenance of the DDACL website and social media platforms.
  • Lead production of our internal communications, newsletter, brochures and other publications/collateral as necessary.
  • Develop and implement best practice policies, systems and procedures relevant to the position.
  • Develop and maintain strong, professional and productive relationships with DDACL staff to ensure targeted and culturally appropriate communications.
  • Assist with the effective performance of DDACLs communications budget and monitor on an ongoing basis.
  • Ensure the communications risk management register is contemporary and maintain relevant compliance obligations.
  • Deliver key annual events, including NAIDOC celebrations, community engagement events and campaigns.
  • Maintain and monitor DDACL’s brand consistency.

 

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

Qualifications/Experience:

A relevant tertiary qualification, Cert IV in Marketing and Communications or equivalent. 2 years relevant experience preferred.

Knowledge and skills:

  • Awareness and appreciation of Victorian Aboriginal societies and cultures and an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal people in contemporary Victoria including the diversity of circumstances of Indigenous people.
  • Highly organised with the ability to work on multiple tasks and manage competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated track record of clearly and concisely presenting information both in writing and verbally, together with the ability to communicate complex concepts to a broad audience.
  • Ability to provide high quality customer service to internal and external stakeholders, maintaining professional relationships, at all times.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a professional and ethical manner under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of the roles of Local, State and Federal Governments and the community controlled sector.
  • Understanding of the specific issues that organisations need to address to communicate effectively with the Victorian Aboriginal community and local elders.
  • High level understanding and use of standard office software including Email, Microsoft Word and Excel, skills in developing and/or administering web sites and other online media (or the capacity to develop these skills).
  • Experience in delivering projects within agreed timeframes.
  • Experience in event management, in a community setting.

 

Safety screening:

You possess a current Driver Licence, Working with Children check, be willing to undertake a Police background check and provide proof of vaccination status.
